Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Turkish residence permits, work permits, and our legal services
Residence Permit
How long does it take to get a residence permit in Turkey?
The processing time varies depending on the type of residence permit and the city where you apply. Generally, it takes 4-8 weeks from the date of application. Short-term residence permits are usually processed faster than long-term permits. Our lawyers ensure your application is complete and accurate to minimize delays.
What are the main types of residence permits in Turkey?
Turkey offers several types of residence permits: Short-term (up to 2 years), Family (for family members of Turkish citizens or residents), Student (for enrolled students), Long-term (for those who have legally resided in Turkey for at least 8 years), and Humanitarian (for special circumstances). Each has specific requirements and benefits.
Can I work in Turkey with a residence permit?
A standard residence permit does not automatically give you the right to work in Turkey. You need to apply for a work permit separately. However, family residence permits and long-term residence permits may allow you to work under certain conditions. Our lawyers can guide you through the proper process.
What documents do I need for a residence permit application?
Common documents include: valid passport, passport-size photos, proof of accommodation (lease agreement or title deed), proof of financial means, health insurance valid in Turkey, application fee payment receipt, and additional documents depending on the permit type. We review and prepare all necessary documents for you.
Can my residence permit be rejected?
Yes, applications can be rejected if documents are incomplete, requirements are not met, or if there are concerns about your stay in Turkey. Common reasons include insufficient financial means, invalid health insurance, or criminal records. Our experienced lawyers carefully review your case to maximize approval chances and guide you if rejection occurs.
Work Permit
How do I get a work permit in Turkey?
Work permits in Turkey are typically employer-sponsored. Your employer must apply on your behalf through the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The process includes submitting your employment contract, company documents, and personal documents. Our lawyers assist both employers and employees throughout the application process.
How long is a Turkish work permit valid?
Work permits are usually issued for up to one year initially and can be renewed. After working legally in Turkey for at least 6 years (or 4 years for certain professions), you may be eligible for an indefinite work permit. The permit is specific to your employer and position.
Can I change employers with my work permit?
No, work permits in Turkey are employer-specific. If you change employers, you need to apply for a new work permit. However, the process is simpler if you already hold a valid work permit, and you may be exempt from certain quotas. Our lawyers can facilitate the transition smoothly.
Do I need a residence permit if I have a work permit?
Yes, you need both. A work permit gives you the right to work, but you must also apply for a residence permit to legally reside in Turkey. Usually, you apply for the work permit first, and once approved, you apply for a residence permit. We handle both applications for you.

After 5 years of continuous legal residence, you may also be eligible. We can assess your eligibility and assist with the process.
